Pick up tickets in town first, get the car to drop at the base of the mountain (along the road to the right of the main ticket booth about 1km), walk around the sites; 1000 lingas, waterfall, Preah Ang Thom pagoda. It’s nice view of the pyramid from the entrance, no other buildings blocking your view, very solid construction of the pyramid. And very few visitors which makes it a pleasant experience. The climb to the top looks daunting at times, with a wooden staircase along the one side of the temple, but do not fear. Going up the 160 steps is worth it when you see the view from the top. One of the oldest sites from the Khmer empire, Koh Ker Group Temple stands as a 10th century reminder that this was once the capital city. Due to the age it has been looted over the centuries and the complex as a whole is lacking much of the decorative statues that are seen at other sites. This was a long trip three hours drive from Siem Reap just to get to the area at the foot of the site which is right on the border with Thailand. From the entry point you can see the border. The temple itself is spectacular and stretches out up the back of the hill to the top and is a fairly steady walk with amazing views once you get to the top . Do not skip Preah Vihear temple if you are visiting Siem Reap. A panorama view of Cambodia and Thai border up there is just beautiful, the architecture of this temple is different from all the site in Siem Reap, the space is wider and layout is much easier to access.
